Committee

Who is the Sculpture in the Park Committee?
Advised and supported by the St. Charles Park District in partnership with the St. Charles Park Foundation, this public committee consists of up to 10 members including 3 or more local art enthusiasts/sculptors, 1 Foundation representative and at least 4 Park District employees.

 

Preferred Qualifications of Members

  • Volunteer experience with community events

  • Demonstrate interest or knowledge of public art; specifically sculptures

  • St. Charles area resident/business with experience as an artist or in an art-related business

 

Committee Responsibilities & Expectations

  • Review and approve the Prospectus 

  • Assist in the sculpture selection process

  • Suggest sculpture purchase selections to Park Board of Commissioners

  • Attend committee meetings

  • Support and attend committee functions such as annual reception

  • Assist in soliciting SITP sponsors, financial partnerships, and donations

  • Recruit and approve new committee members  

 

Park District Staff Responsibilities
Director of Parks & Recreation

  • Be an advisor to the committee

  • Provide feedback for budget and policy revisions

  • Coordination with Park Board and Foundation 

 

Marketing Manager

  • Maintain the accuracy and history of exhibit information

  • Oversee all printing and digital promotions including website, online application process, postcard/email notifications, ID plaques, signs, press releases and photos

  • Coordinate financial partnerships and donations

  • Coordinate purchase/donation process of permanent sculptures

Event Supervisor

  • Organize all administrative needs such as meetings, agendas, reports, presentations, etc.

  • Coordinate the nationwide solicitation of sculptor participation including all communications with artists and the committee selection process

  • Present selected sculptures to Park Board for final approval

  • Propose the annual budget and track revenues & expenses

  • Coordinate all the details for the annual reception

Construction Supervisor

  • Coordinate with sculptors the installation and removal of sculptures in the park(s)

  • Determine placement of sculptures for the annual exhibit

  • Advise committee and work with sculptors regarding the safety and suitability of potential sculptures

  • Maintain the history of damage and vandalism of pieces; assist in insurance claims
